2019 Puerto Rico Mission Trip
A group of Hope volunteers will be traveling to Puerto Rico September 14-21 to work directly with the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod missionaries on the island. Our national church body shares the Good News of Jesus Christ and provides residents with relief supplies still needed since Hurricane Maria two years ago. Missionaries in Puerto Rico also engage the community through music lessons, ESL classes, Bible studies and activities in housing complexes where many elderly citizens, special needs and mentally ill individuals reside. Hope’s volunteers will be working on repairs to the community center and church in the city of Mayaguez, as well as assisting with an activity for seniors in Ponce.
Come to the special Puerto Rico Mission Trip presentation on September 29 from 9:45-10:45AM in the Conference room to learn about the trip.
November 2018 Trip Review
Shortly before Thanksgiving, the Puerto Rico mission team returned safely from a productive week working in the town of Mayagüez. God blessed the work of the 13 participants as they re-roofed a home, re-plumbed the church’s community center, painted two on-site apartments, constructed eight sets of bunks for use by future mission teams and demolished an unused structure behind the center.
In addition to the construction objectives, the volunteers got to know several missionaries serving on the island. They attended a Bible study with the Ponce congregation and a worship service (¡en español!) with the Mayagüez congregation. Thanks be to God for the Puerto Rico mission team’s supporters at Hope, who generously donated funds and offered prayers before and during the trip. Please continue to pray for the current and incoming LCMS missionaries and staff serving Puerto Rico, that the Holy Spirit works through them to reach so many who do not yet know Christ.
As one of the hymns used in worship in Mayagüez so aptly expresses: “En mi corazón escribe Redención y Salvación. Que el dolor no lo elimine ni problemas, ni aflicción el Bautismo me inscribió ‘en la cruz por mi murió’. Es mi vida, mi esperanza, es mi gloria y mi confianza.“
“On my heart imprint your image, Blessed Jesus, king of grace, that life’s troubles nor its pleasures ever may your work erase. Let the clear inscription be: ‘Jesus, crucified for me,’ is my life my hope’s foundation, all my glory and salvation!
