Our Church Blog - God At Work

God At Work

Posted by Wayne Puls on

Early next month, something very mysterious and wonderful is happening at Hope. Our congregation is going to be partnering with the Lord God in a unique event. On June 3, we're going to be praying over and consecrating our two DCE (Director of Christian Education) Interns, Steve McCarthy and Wesley Spottiswood; and God's going to put his hand on them in a powerful way.

Here's what's going on. Wesley and Steve have received Solemn Calls from the congregation, and have accepted those Calls. They will be officially commissioned as DCE's of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, and installed as members of our ministry staff at Hope, on June 3. That may not sound too dramatic; but, in a spiritual sense, this is something very exciting!

As Lutherans, we believe that God calls men and women into ministry roles in the church. He has equipped and shaped Wesley and Steve for ministry, and he has put it on their hearts to serve and lead in the church as a full-time vocation. This calling from the Lord is a spiritual matter, something intensely personal and heartfelt. We believe, though, that God's calling, for certain church workers, comes via the local congregation. It's a pretty awesome thing that Steve and Wesley feel led to devote themselves to full-time church work.  It's all the more remarkable that God has used our congregation to convey this call to these two young men. God moves in mysterious ways. How blessed we are that he is moving in our midst at Hope!

Mark your calendar for Sunday, June 3, at the 11:00 AM service, and be part of the Service of Commissioning and Installation. Our loving God will definitely  be present, and you should, as well. After the service, join us for a congregational fellowship luncheon, as we enjoy delicious North Carolina BBQ with our new DCE's. Watch the bulletin and website for details on tickets for the luncheon. Keep Steve and Wesley, and their ministry in our church, in your prayers, please.

In Christ,
