Disaster Response Training Course (LERT)
Saturday, May 19, 2018, 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM
When disaster strikes, lives are turned upside down. Survivors often need food, clothing, shelter, and spiritual care as they begin to cope with tragedy and loss. Responding to these hurting people is a vital part of who we are as members of Hope, and members of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LCMS).
Would you like to become a better prepared to serve your church and community when a disaster strikes? On Saturday, May 19, Hope will host a Lutheran Early Response Team (LERT) training event, led by Joel & Kathy Matthews (Mercy in Action Disaster Response).Attendees will receive training in basics of disaster response, Biblical reasons for being involved, volunteer safety, legal issues, general debris cleanup, and flood and hurricane cleanup. You will receive an LCMS Disaster Response credential to enter disaster zones as one of our volunteers. Sign up below, cost is $35, lunch included. A follow-up chainsaw operator course will be held in June; but the May 19 LERT training is a prerequisite.
