Life Skills Class
Hope is hosting a Life Skills Class on Thursday, August 18th from 6:30-8:00PM. A Life Skills class is designed to help the homeless obtain values and practical life skills to manage in the world, supported by PLM Families Together. A dinner is served and transportation is offered to and from Hope, as well as the distribution of clothing from the HopeChest.
Volunteers are needed:

  • To prepare and serve dinner;
  • To drive families to and from the church;
  • To watch children while the adults attend a class led by PLM staff;

Please sign up at the Sign-up Desk in the Narthex. If you have questions, contact Ronny Burman (silverburman@aol.com).

PLM Families Together, Inc. (PLMFT), exists to help homeless families reach independence.

Their three-fold mission is:

  1. Provide housing and empowering supportive services to homeless families so that they may achieve self-sufficiency
  2. To advocate with and for homeless families
  3. To involve volunteers in pursuing the first two goals

Hope Lutheran Church partners with PLM Families Together Inc. in several different ways

  1. Once per quarter Hope hosts a Life Skills class which equips homeless families to live productive and meaningful lives. A dinner is prepared and served by the people of Hope to 40-60 people that are in the PLM program. After dinner a life-skills class is taught (The topics range from medical issues, to appropriate shopping methods, to how to interview for a job). As the class is being offered some members of Hope entertain the children through various activities and crafts. After the class is complete, each person is then given an opportunity to shop in our make-shift store where the members of Hope had donated clothing, via our Hope Chest Ministry, the week prior to the class.
  2. Adopt-apartments. Some members of Hope’s Small Group Ministry adopt an apartment by cleaning and preparing an apartment to welcome new residents to the PLM community. The volunteer group then leaves a welcome basket that gives a family much needed cleaning and other supplies.
